Alfa Romeo Cool or Crap?

Just been driving my dads car over the last few days he has an alfa romeo 147. I think I like them, they seem stylish but performance is not incredible.

Just wondering what some of your opinions are, I know they are not the most reliable my dad has taken his back a fair few times since he has had it.

Let me know what you think, heres a pic I found of the 147GTA.

Absolutely cool car ........... buggar to drive, very unforgiving ........... if you want a easy to drive car in the same class get a golf r32.

51 plate 2.0 147 lusso selespeed , geabox problem after 20k miles, if selector £1500, if not new gearbox at £2500 - 2 year old low miles, high bills when they go wrong -not covered by warrantee....
i,ve seen 12k mile alfa 156's knocking their nuts off when running.

theyre getting cheaper these days but when they go wrong ...

Great engines but that's where it ends. Wouldn't touch one with a barge-pole. Couple of mates have had the 156 and had real problems. The Alpha dealers are also renowned for being useless arrogant W*%kers. One of my pal's 156's lost all it's ignition & immobiliser info and it took Alpha 3 MONTHS to sort it!!!!

I agree with the dealers being W*%kers. My dad has had similiar small problems and has long waits untill they got resolved.

I thought the 156 where the more proane to mechanical problems. Are most alfa models the same then? I think the GTV and Spiders look smart and you can pick up a R reg for £5000.

Look u lot these cars are race pedigree and not the usual neon lighted civic or tw*ted up saxo so u got to learn to live with a few minor probs.Yes i agree the dealers are wan***s but the guys down there are just worried about the bonus , so if anything more than a regular service comes in they sh+t themselves.Try out alfa 155.com and see what true petrolheads talk about.And by the way did a M3 2 days ago the guy was sick a 1995 155 did him

Jackroo, if you like ths car get it, after all it is you paying for it. Do some research (if need be) on riliability and costs and if you can and want to buy and enjoy.

I like the SZ, but a little pricey.

Some look nice but im supprised people still buy them especially when they go wrong so much!!

Sorry but that's just priceless, Since when would ANYONE consider his Alpha being off the road for 3 MONTHS (as I stated in my post) a " Minor Prob" !!
Get real I know I shouldn't mock the afflicted, but, on your point about the M3 - The only way you would have beaten it was if the guy was sittin' in a lay-by eating his Marks & Sparks Egg Mayo sandwich and didn't happen to notice you passing!!!! ROFL :tongue

they are cr4p

i dont even like running the diag on them as they are too eratic in the first place
