Tivo died !!!!!! help

Hello,

My tivo has suddenly stopped working
I have searched the net and this thread on another forum is actually the same issue. Although there is no detailed solution given.

Tivo has the green light on all the time/fan spins etc but no picture of any kind. No response to the remote.

The tivo is a virgin box with no addons at all - I do have a handy 120MB HDD I can fit though if this is the solution.

Questions Questions
What I need to know is what steps can I start to troubleshooting the situation as turning the tivo off seems to have no effect.

Is there a combo of remote key presses for a reset ?
Is there some software I can download to check the HDD or even rebuild a blank HDD ?
Is it allowed to ask for the location of this software if it exists ?

Any Help would be much appreciated - I cant live without the tivo, you know how I feel.

Looks like I am going to need a new UK tivo image. If anyone has any advice on this please PM me.

FIXED IT !!!!

Replaced the 40GB HDD with a 120GB one and a new image - works fine now and is running faster on menu'e etc.

I am not sure if it was a corrupt image on the old 40GB or if the drive died yet as In havent tested it - but either way it was an HDD issue.

Is the new drive one with an 8mb cache? Apparantly the 8meg cache improves menu speeds - although the full TiVo database is 512meg so it will still have to access the hard drive.

9thtee.com by the way are selling cache cards with built in ethernet adaptors for $99. The idea is the cache-card will cache THE ENTIRE database so it improves the menu speeds and searching lots (allegedly)

I dont think the drive is 8mb, think it was a cheaper 2mb - its that hitichi (cant spell it) one from RL. But its flying long now, much quicker on all menus. I had to delete all the season passes from it as well as the image I obtained has 98 of them ! I didnt want to do the complete delete so I did them by hand - on the old HDD this would have taken ages but was near instant on the new one - sweet.

Also - remember to do a new guided setup to change the Postcode of your image if you reinstall someone elses tivo image - As I have been watching scottish BBC and ITV for the last 24hr until I noticed this.
