Default John Carpenters: The Thing.. Is it any good?

After a conversation on IRC though I'd ask what everyone else though about this movie. I though it rocked but others don't.

Wow !! Really surprized by this - I loved this movie, special effects were cutting edge at the time and it was generally scary.

Love this movie, along with pretty much everything JC directed earlier in his career. Really should invest in the DVD at some point as I hear the commentary's a real hoot.

The film is class... and the origional B/W B-movie is even better and in some cases creates more of a tense atmosphere.....

Must be an age thing... if it hasnt got 80% CGI 'its crap' :nowords: :nono

I remember watching this film way back in the 80's, my gran had hired it from one of those mobile video stores, you remember the ones that came every week and hired you 5 movies. Anyway, she was out and me and my little brother watched it then, it was the scariest movie i had ever seen, that film lived with me all through-out puberty.
And then a few years ago, i came across the dvd release of it, and it wsa pretty much exactly how i remembered it. SCARY!
Now i want a dog like that one Oh and a Hand too
