roads are a disgrace no ploughs or gritters all day on main roads round stoke and newcastle 3 inches of snow and were fu*ked
i suppose we can forgive the councils this time because we had no warning of the weather

Youre not bloody wrong mate. Hertfordshire - no gritters all day then when the snow starts, the traffic stops - exactly the same as last time. Just went to pick my mum up from work, took an hour and a half to do a 5 minute round trip
I am a loud man with a very large hat. This means I am in charge
Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
we've had quite icy roads on the side streets but the main roads have been alright as far as i know
Theres loads of em in blackburn
EM.
Took me 1 hour to do a 5 minute drive from shotgunjim's house to mine. No gritters in sight and bedlam on the road's. :annoyed:
is exeter the only place in england that hasnt got any. Its just been raining here all day. We had about 5 mins of hail but thats about it

North London certainly wasn't a few hours ago!!! Took me an hour to drive from Southgate to Barnet, usually takes 5 minutes.
south london no better.
A23 pretty much rammo from outside croydon all the way into town...
took hour and 40 mins for a 15 min trip.
people walking faster than the cars.
so where in london does yazmon live then???
Didnt notice there was any snow
get yourself a fo by fo
.
in the last 48 hours since the warnings were given by the met office EVERY motorway and main trunk road has been double gritted, even in areas that got no snow according to the highways agency, however local roads are the responsibility of the local councils and all were given the same warning so if they havent done their job, vote them out at the next election.
1st time all the school run mums had a chance to use em properly, shame they were all stuck in 5 mph traffic.Originally Posted by Morph

i live 5 mins from a gritting station, didnt see one at all today, bet theyre out tonight, gate open horse bolted come to mind. still only black ice to deal with tommorrow morning !
My mum had to get the car mats out of the back twice & stuff em under the front wheels. Then run back to fetch them. Only after 10 minutes of this did someone offer to give her a push up the hill.
I'd have helped but I had my shoes off in the back
Nah, not really. Nice one to the 2 blokes who sat on the bonnet of the car.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...
he was just warming his arse!

Everything was fine on the ride home last night. A little slower but thats understandable when it is snowing!Originally Posted by Epiphany
Went out at at around 9 and the small roads round the houses were ice (which must of been fun to drive on!) but the main roads were still ice free. Traffic was slow, but as I said, its normally slow, people being more cautious (which is what people seem to be complaining about) but the main roads werent covered in ice as the subject sudjested!

traffic was pretty much at a stand still in burslem/hanley/tunstall, i took my mum 3 hours to do a 5 minute drive. glad i left my car at home i live on a massive bank just off a high street, there were no gritters anywhere near it as a result there was a tt, golf, fiesta and a rover all side by side into each other and a tree.
all 176 schools are shut in aberdeenshire today, and 173 were shut yesterday. only 3 inches of snow; i remmeber going to school in loads worse than this when i was younger.
the roads simply werent clear.
this morning i waited until 6:50 instead of 6:10 to do my paper round this morning, so that pavements would be gritted and stuff (another 3 inches of snow so it was getting a bit bad) but not a single pavement i walked on had been done at this time.
we get a few degrees colder up here generally than down south, plus its a few degrees colder in towns than it is in cities so when it is 2deg down south its usually below 0 up here, and as a result of that it is frosty more or less every morning from november to march, yet there are never any gritters to be seen when they are needed.
our street has been plouged and gritted this year though, so its not all bad, just take their time.
if you have a front wheel drive car or a 4x4 then snow usually doesnt cause much of a problem anyway
(my dads bmw once got defeated by 1/2" of snow on a slight incline, mums golf manages snow fine )
Gritters, have not seen one for donkeys ages (thata a long long time).
I remember someone falling over having a nasty accident, trying to sue the council saying they are obliged to Grit paths/roads for safety. council won for some reason, as it set a president meaning no council needed to Grit and it was upto the user (roads or paths (both if you loose control)) to take due care.
Could be fun ahead, councils not needing to do certain things and still raising our Council Tax, but thats another RANT.
