    CD Drives Disappeared

    Recently my DVD Drive and CDRW drives disappeared although in System Devices it states that the device drivers were loaded but gave this error:

    Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

    If I was to put a cd in the drives they light to indicate that they are being read.

    Any help appreciated.

    try updating driver , try going back to a system restore point if it is xp , i had a similar problem to this and got round it by going to IDE CHANNEL properties in control panel , set the Transfer Mode to PIO ONLY , reboot then change it back to DMA if available ..... this is in XP

    Sounds like your IDE Controller Drivers have gone for walkies. You should have a CD with your motherboard with them on but how can you get them to work if your devices have disappeared? :nowords:

    Restoring Access to CD ROMs

    If after you remove CD Burning software, you can no longer access your CD ROM's,
    the following registry keys need to be deleted:
    Locate and delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters values under the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    (.reg file attatched if u cba to use regedit)
