    Default Web Hosting change?

I'm looking to change web hosts but can't afford to have any downtime, is there a way to do this?

yep, get the site fully setup on your new host then arrange for the dns to be changed over. for 24-48 hours/or untill peoples dns caches update your site will be viewed on both hosts untill eventually its loading just from the first.

if your using any databases migrate them to the new host then change the scripts in on your old host to access the db on the new server

There is no real way to change over sites without any downtime because once the dns has been changed there is always a period of time were the site cannot be reached with usually takes 24hrs but can be quicker depending on factors such as how long it takes your domain registrar to pass on the update etc.

It would be probably be best to go over your stats and work out what day during the week your site receives the least amount of traffic and do the dns change on the evening before this date.

bmuk pretty much had it covered,

Last time I had to swap a site without downtime I put the newsite up with all the database etc... and got it working, then pointed the old site to the new with a redirect page (directed to the new ones ip address) and then when the dns is changed to the new IP address during the change over period it does not matter if people go the the old site as they will simply be redirected to the new one using the IP address.

    Hope you follow that !!!

    Crossman.
