Default freshcards - A site for cards

Just finished this site for a friend who wanted to sell cards online. Taken quite a while (~50 hours) development time, including all the graphics etc etc.

Let me know what you think of it!

Also would be good to get some feedback on the prices of the cards etc and the styles of cards which I can pass on to the girly who makes them

    Cheers fella's

If you mean the link you gave, as a site it really sucks!

If you mean removing the "images/freshcards.gif" and going there then it's alright innit.
Bit erm... green for me, but it does exactly what it's supposed to.
Most important thing is, does the client like it?

Prices .... Well, I think all card manufacturers are robbing barstewards and charge a fortune for a product that costs next to nothing to create.
If the cards on there are hand made then I suppose it's a good price for them.

Hope I wasn't too critical or even worse not critical enough.

    Have fun.

Well if you clicked on the image instead of copying the image location you wouldn't have had a problem...

The client really likes it, and I get paid but I work to a higher level. There are a lot more people than the client and I so I wanted to try and please them too

I don't see an image fella, I just see:

Which is the link to the image.

Cheers guys, green's not my fave colour but it is different, and it is a clean look so couldn't really push the client on this.

Aspect, that link would be an embedded image in the post if your settings were set to display images on here! Never mind, ammended with a URL :thumbs

Have you checked the site on multiple resolutions?

Personally, as the most used resolution (according to W3C) is 800 x 600 I'd box it in with a max width of 760 pixels so the layout is the same whatever the resolution of the viewer.

What base program or script did you use? Personally if you started from scratch, ~50 on reinventing the wheel a bit of a waste, but all in all seems okay.

It isn't green it's GREEN and for the market your mate is aiming at it may be offputting being far from neutral.

Take a look at me corporate website for more info: http://www.ukonlineforbusiness.gov.uk
    IT people slash forward.

Also, lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part....

Yeah they might all use 800x600 and it will look good on that size resolution, but what if they use 1600x1200 or 1024x768, it will be a huge amount of wasted space.

In my opinion its far better to design a site which looks good in 'all' resolutions than one which looks good in the majority of resolutions.

I wrote the site from scratch as there was no shopping cart software available that satisfied my needs of being lightweight and as customisable as I wanted, so rather than try to force a freeware script to fit I wrote my own. In the long run was probably quicker than trying to midify existing scripts.

The question about neutral sites being more appropriate is also dubious We wanted the site to be remembered, to invoke a clean and fresh image, and to be professional.

    Thanks for your input mate

Totally agree with WTD on this point, why restrict the site to 760px wide when many many users have 1024x768 and above. Like WTD has already said you are wasting space and it's an easy out for designers/developers to restrict the size.

As for the site WTD, I like it, clean, simple look and feel but works well, very quick to load and does the job, me being a designer and developer I do like to see nice looking sites so personally I would have added a few more gfx to spruce it up a bit but I do like the clean simple look too.

Gonna be launching a new site on 12th January (hopefully), I'll be back with a link when she's ready..............

clean & simple, the navigation and the layout are well thoughtout too.
to appeal to a wider audience you should reduce the price down to 1.99 or give thought to a another usp.

All by hand mate, I use editplus (like notepad with syntax highlighting) to code up the PHP and basically embed the HTML in that.

looks great - one point in opera the green bar at the very bottom has writting in it that is alarmingly small.

other than that its perfect m8

    Hi,

I can only give my opinion as someone that surfs the internet and has a little knowledge on web design.I agree that 'all' resolutions is better and your site is quick loading, easy to navigate and professional looking.I did find the green to be a bit bright and the text to be a bit small at the bottom - the copyrights and contacts.I viewed the site at 1024x768.but found everything else ok:thumbs

just out of interest now that xmas is done (yes i know it has more than xmas cards on it).. did she get much business? i dont send christmas cards myself so i sure as hell wouldnt be paying 2 quid+ for a card with delivery on top. but hey.. some ppl just have more money than sense.

the site is nice tho.. clean, very quick and useable if a little bright... would have preferred that something other than white had been used for text on top of that green.. kinda hard on the eyes.
