EASTENDERS bosses are begging Nick Berry to return to the show as heart-throb Wicksy.
Producer Louise Berridge has offered the star a new £200,000-a-year contract, according to insiders.
This follows the huge ratings boost when Leslie Grantham returned as Dirty Den.
A source on the BBC1 soap said: "Louise has made it clear she'll do practically anything to get Nick back. He's still hot property and she is prepared to pay very well to secure his return."
Hunky Nick, 40, had a key role as Pat Evans' barman son Simon Wicks.
And when he left in 1990, he was Albert Square's No 1 sex symbol.
In a series of hot plots he had an affair with Ian Beale's wife Cindy and even fathered a son with her. The boy, Stephen, is now supposed to be living with Wicksy in New Zealand after being brought up by Ian. So there is definitely scope to write him into the script - far easier than bringing back Dirty Den from the dead.
Our source added: "Louise knows it may take some time before Nick decides to come back. After all, it took her a year to persuade Leslie Grantham.
"But everyone has their price and eventually we are hoping to close the deal."
After EastEnders, Nick had another big hit playing clean-cut copper Nick Rowan in ITV's Heartbeat.
Later, he starred in crime dramas Harbour Lights and In Deep.
An EastEnders spokesman said last night: "The door is always open for him."
