Got my Driving Test next week, any tips?

Hi guys, got my practical driving test next saturday (7th), Havin my 1st lesson for over 3 weeks as had an op on my knee and dam thing took longer than i though to heal, Looking @ the weather i rekon ill be more like skiing than driving today, anyway any1 hav any tips for the big day? Any info appreciated thanks

I don't suggest giving the backhand.... But make sure your not drunk, also look clean and presentable. Oh and be polite to the instructor... even if you fail.

Yeah, be nice to the instructor. When I passed I thought I'd failed because the lights did not change for straight on, but was supposed to go left and didn't see the arrow change to green. The instructor didn't say anything to correct this, and I carried on throughout the rest of the test more relaxed because I thought I blew it. Anyway passed after 12 lessons in all.

Good luck. Maybe take a beta blocker as this reduces anxiety and stress.

Polite? LOL, ill understand if i do somin stupid, but if they fail me on something small which ive heard they do sometimes, the last thing im gona do is be polite :thumbs

oh yeh, had a lesson today after over 3 weeks and made a complete balls of it, even freaked out on the instructor as he wouldnt stop yellin @ me which didnt help. hit a curb, missed a right & kept turning in 4th & even did wot robbo did in his test, lol, it dosnt help when the instructor never shuts up, i suppose it will help in the test, as all ill hear is the instructor's voices in my head.

i only passed my test last year n its a ****ing doddle driving without sum **** in your ear hole the entire time,u can concentrate alot easier without the ******* telling u exactly what to do, the tests easier than a lesson aswell, dont sweat it m8!

stay calm, thats the main thing/ when ur sitting there waiting for ur test nd all u can think about it passing or failing just try nd relax. nd also, take ur time with things, particularly manourvers

Mirrors!!

Show the examiner that you know you have them by using them frequently (they love observation)
You don't have to exaggerate your head movements when using them, just a slight turn will be enough for the examiner to notice that you are looking in them.

well as pegasus says mirrors are important, set them so you have to move your head to see out that way the examiner knows you are using them, well placed mirrors can result in the examiner saying you didnt use them.

line up a kerbstone, the gap between the bonnet and front wing and something (a mark) on either your windscreen or dash (to reflect up) when all 3 are aligned you are straight to the kerb so if you sort it before taking your test both paralell parking and reverse around corner are easy to get right.

just chill out and take ur time. everyone says this to you, and you cant help but get nervous, but if you do, just slow down, especially on manouvers. when i was reversing around a corner, my fcking leg wouldnt stop shaking on my clutch. i just did a quick safety check, put my handbrake on, chilled out for a sec, carried back on with the job. as long as your cool, and you dont rush things its fine. good luck:thumbs

I have not passed mine yet but iv been told and as soem drivers have said in here mirrors are a key factor, as ABCMan said well placed mirrors the examinor can say you did not luck, whereas if they are adjusted so you move your head it tells the examiner you are bothering looking.

But i am sure ill be doing mine in the nearby future hopefully this thread can come un useful :-)

Thnx for all the responses guys, some real good points Didn't think of the mirrors trick thing, nice1 abcman, defo gona keep lookin @ the mirrors as last thing i want to do is fail on that. hopefully all will go ok. Will keep u guys posted

I hit a kerb while I was reversing round a corner...still passed tho.

As someone else said, dont be drunk, even though I did it after a big night out. It wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been.

One other thing that hasnt been mentioned, make sure you go 30, not 28, cause thats what got me a few of my minors in my test.

Well, I thought I had ****ed up twice in my test.

I put both wheels onto the pavement when I turned a corner and stalled it once. He said the corner incident wasn't serious enough for a major. Anyway he passed me with 14 minors.

My foot was shaking like a leaf throughout the test

all that about moving the mirrors so that you have to move your head to see them is a load of bollox.
My instructor told me about this myth, he said its a load of bollox and that was 10 years ago.
The examiner has a little mirror on his left that is lined up to look straight at your eyes, he uses this to check your eye movement.
All you will suceed in doing by moving your mirrors, is make things awkward for yourself.
