    Default R-Type final

is this the best shoot-em-up ever or what ?
i even stole the ps2 off me kids just for this one game.

totaly faithfull to the original r-type in control and style.
just monster graphics. monster bosses. monster weapons.

can see this taking up many many many hours of my time.

Ive had a copy of this for a while, but my copy is from Sony Entertainment Korea, and is in half english half Korean or Japanese.

The thing is they always make the Asian originals harder than the European version.
    Its hard as fook!

That one has been kicking about for a while m8, I'm sure a full translation is now out. Played it at a mates and soon got bored, it get's very repetitive like most games of this genre.

Ntsc version was released last week.

i will agree with TF that its is repetative...but thats what shoot-em-ups are supposed to be like.
    fly and shoot...shoot and fly....

as with all previous rtypes you cannot save your game.
once your out of credits your back to the start....
so there is a challenge to be had...
first is to finish the game using credits.
then to finsish using only 1 credit
then to finish using only one life

I always found R-Type really frustrating though because of the lives issue. It should be infinite for people who's attention span get's very slim when they constantly die in a game. You could just play it on easy, but then you might as well not bother playing as there is no challenge.

    Just my opinion...

The idea is that you get a bit farther each time you play as you learn attack patterns etc. Shoot em ups are my favourite genre

I had a bash on it tonight, its a good shooter, but hardly the best ever, graphically its very nice, but gameplay wise I prefered Ikaruga and Borderdown

Although my favourite scrolling shooter is capcoms mars matrix (the DC port)

and TF, thats the thing with shoot em ups, poor gamers need not apply

Mafia is better on PC m8 in my opinion. Wouldn't bother trying it on PS2 if you have tried the PC version already.

i bet you play pokemon too TF

How can you say shootem ups are boring, theyre exactly the opposite - all action, all the time.

I find it "boring" wandering round for 2 hours trying to stealthily break some blokes neck, or finding a key for a door I passed 8 days ago - thats the definition of "boring"

Lets complete long winded missions cos its cool to pretend we're gangsters, or some bad assed nobhead in gta, or some special agent in MGS - you're deluding yerself !

Shoot em ups are a total escape, a test of true gaming ability. Reactions, strategy, action, all at 500 MPH

I was never a fan of r-type in particular but shoot em ups in general are my favourite genre. (try starforce on mame - or border down - or ikaruga on dc/gc)

Think you took my responses a bit too seriously, I am entitled to my opinion and I gave it. Half the members on here would disagree with you about your description's of gta and mgs.

only just bought this game, and i gotta say that i really like it

there was a ps1 version of r-type that wasn't up to much, so i wasn't expecting much from this....but so far so good

i like the variation of ships - the second one with the extended blast is fooking ace.....can't wait to unlock t'other ships :thumbs

    Shooooooo-ryuken!
