Default PC boots fine unless a USB is plugged in???

I have a Dell Inspiron 350MHz P2, quite an old chassis.......
usb plugs work fine if the hardware is plugged in after its booted up, but if any usb is plugged in during boot, it just hangs after the initial bios screen

anyone have any ideas? there dont seem to be any obvious bios options I can change?

    cheers

i can't see an os effecting the bios, but mabye worth a shot askin.

could be powersupply - USB uses that quite a lot since it actually powers devices.

are you sure it is any device and not a specific one?

    i'm on XP pro.

interesting comment on the specific device as I've only ever tried it with a WinTV unit.
I'll see if my cd burner or printer have the same effect.

    Cheers guys...

If it does turn out to be all devices would I have to upgrade the power supply to a more powerful one? this is still the original one, dont know the details, but its about 4 years old now.
