    Default Need help running game

I have been trying to get Pro Evolution Soccer 3 to run well on my PC for a while now. The problem is I only have an onboard graphics card, but its currently set to 64mb. I can get the game to run but it plays VERY slow, its impossible to actually play it properly because it is TOO slow. This was on the lowest settings, anything higher just gets worse.
These are the requirements of the game (from play.com)

    Minimum:
    Windows98/Me/2000/XP
    CPU: PentiumIII 800MHz
Graphic/Video Card: DirectX8.1 compatible video card with more than VRAM 32MB
    DVD Driver
    Main Memory: 128MB RAM
Hard Disk: 1Gig or more free space
    Sound Card:100% DirectX8.1 compliant
Controls: Keyboard (Game Pad with more than 3 buttons recommended)
    Recommended:
    OS: Windows2000/XP
    CPU: Pentium 4 1.5Ghz
    Graphic/ Video card: DirectX8.1 , GeForce4 with VRAM 64Mb or more recommended
    DVD Driver
Main Memory: 256MB or more recommended
Hard Disk: 3Gig or more recommended
    Sound Card:100% DirectX8.1 compliant
Controls: Keyboard (Game Pad with more than 3 buttons recommended)
This information is based on specifications supplied by manufacturers and should be used for guidance only.

    Here is my spec:

    Win XP
    AMD Athlon 1700+XP
    64MB onboard graphics
    384MB Ram
Sound worked fine with game so no probs there

The problem is that it is not easy to upgrade my gfx card. I dont have an AGP slot, so if I am to upgrade it has to be PCI only.
Is there anyway I can run this game? I dont need high textures etc. as long as it plays at normal speed then thats great :thumbs

If I do have to upgrade my gfx card which is the best PCI card to go for? I dont really want to upgrade motherboard etc. Im just after a quick fix for now.

    Any help?

It depends how often you're going to be playing on games and what quality you find acceptable. I'm using a GeForce FX 5200 on AGP 8X which does me fine as i'm not really a heavy gamer. You could ask around but that's what i'd recommend. Here's the PCI version of it from EBuyer: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=54893

    Good Luck,

change your motherboard m8 cos with pci you will never get a card that is much cop anyhow and will pay more for the same card in pci than u will for agp,

    try these. http://www.web-systems.co.uk/?page=Products&pid=1079

    http://www.web-systems.co.uk/?page=Products&pid=1228

    http://www.web-systems.co.uk/?page=Products&pid=830

Thanks a lot both of you for the advice, am looking into both options now. I dont intend to play many games really, so performance is not a big issue.
I am aware though that PCI cards do not perform as well as the AGP cards, so maybe changing motherboard would be better?
Problem is, I have never attempted anything like that as I haven't built a PC before. I am OK with having a crack at it but the only things that put me off is the CPU chip and the fan, how easy are they to swap over?

Thanks to both of you for the links too, some good prices there :thumbs

changing chip is easier than changing board so give it a go but why not get a new chip as well theres a lot of board/chip offers about at the moment the 1700 is ok but its not too expensive to get a 2500 xp now or if funds allow even faster just make sure it has agp

EDIT- seen a couple more options on slightly more expensive cards (9600 instead of 9600SE etc.), will get back with which card I end up choosing...

Just to keep you updated I've gone for a 9600 ATI version. Saw a 9600SE version for ~£50 but have been told that the SE versions are cut down versions. So in the end I've gone for a 9600 ATI card for ~£70:

Seems like a decent price to me.

yeh sorry mate should've been clearer, im buying a new mobo as well. Im getting the one wakadoo posted (cheers m8) as below:

    http://www.web-systems.co.uk/?page=Products&pid=1079

So for the 9600ATI card and mobo I am looking at £100, which is not bad as I heard that gfx card should last for the new games like HL2
