system clock slowing

Hi all-
I'm new to the site, looking for clues on why my system clock gets "behind". After a fresh reboot, it's correct, but when leaving my box on for long periods of time, I turn the screen back on, and the clock is minutes, or even as much as an hour behind. It doesn't always get behind, just because it's been on. And sometimes it lags, even when I haven't been using it at all. Any ideas?

I'm on Win98, and my Norton anti-virus files are up to date, and scanning clean.

Might be your BIOS battery is running out. See if there is a clock in the BIOS, is this doing the same thing??

yeah definitly bios battery there - easy to change but be careful you dont touch anything else inside pc

then after reboot bios clock will still be behind had this problem when running p2p stuff and using nortons found system freezing from time 2 time and only assumed that clock stopped when system froze now using xp no porbs

When windows boots it only takes a reference from the bios for the time then windows keeps the time from there thats why the time is correct when he first boots :nowords: so there is a definately a problem with windows keeping time somewhere probably some app or backgroung proccess :nowords:

i have 2 pcs running on pirate xp. 1st on started showing wrong date/time. assumed it was battery due to fitting a mobo that was out of system for a while. but around same time the difference in time/date also!!
have changed mobo of the 1st one and as yet all seems ok.

could it be down to xp????

Make sure chip n mem speeds are right in the BIOS - I think this is an internal timing issue

I have had this problem intermittently for some time now

Have installed ds clock which corrects PC clock every time you log on or at selected intervals. Solves the problem a treat
