Should I install Slayer or not

The man in the red suit and white beard brought my lad an x-box for christmas. It has surprisingly got a blue light on the front of the box, which when I switch it on allows him to evaluate back-up copies .

However, one backup is NTSC which is pushing me down the path of installing Slayer. For this one game I'm not too bothered - it could make a rather stylish coaster, but in the longer term what are the advantages and dangers of installing Slayer.

I dont intend to upgrade the HD in the near future (or ever), so no advantage there.

    DVD facility
    NTSC facility
    auto-update of BIOS ??
    XBLIVE??

    cheers for your advice

Have you tried the NTSC disc as it stands, can't remember exactly but I didn't think I needed to do anything to play NTSC discs once the box had been modded with chip alone. Although this could be down to my TV being able to play NTSc (of sorts)

I think the Slayers NTSC switching comes with all sports of warnings as you can be stuck with no picture if you don't know what you are doing.

Having said that I'd go for it anyway as it does give you multi region dvd, and XBMP useful for playing avis, divx etc plus some skins etc to customize your box a bit.

You will need to tweak your evox.ini file a bit to get the bios updater, but this isn't too tricky. Have a look through old posts here, one of the guys posted a copy of jis ini file which you can use.

Doesn't do anything in the way of xbox live though

Xdisk is only really any good if you have a large drive. It chucks all the apps etc onto F: which you won't have if you have the standard retail drive (except possibly seagate drives)

I guess you could go through and change all the installs to E: but wouldn't like to do it myself

u dont install slayers anyway, slayers is an auto evox installer, it comes with the other apps too, u can install:

DVD facility - dvd region x (included in standard evox i think)

NTSC facility - built into the bios as standard, if theyre black n white then u can use the enigmah videomode switch disk and/or get a RGB scart lead

auto-update of BIOS - its not auto, but it can be done through evox, its not in the menu slayers installs tho.

XBLIVE - if your wanting to use live u need to make sure your machine will boot the MS dash when the chip is off
