    from windows XP help

Using Disk ManagementYou might need to be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to perform some tasks.

Disk Management is a system utility for managing hard disks and the partitions or volumes that they contain. With Disk Management, you can initialize new disks, create volumes, and format volumes with the FAT, FAT32, or NTFS file systems. Disk Management enables you to perform most disk-related tasks without shutting down your computer; most configuration changes take effect immediately.

    To open Disk Management
    Open Computer Management (Local).
In the console tree, click Disk Management.
    Notes

To open Computer Management, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management.
For information about using Disk Management, in Computer Management, click Help on the Action menu.
For more information, click Related Topics.

It might be that your motherboard doesnt support a drive of this size. Is it an old motherboard? Check to see if there is a BIOS update that will enable it to see a drive of this size.

He already has a 80GB master so if it was the case of the bios not recognising it as a 120, it should say at lease 80GB.

    He is doing something wrong.

give us full info all at once

    so your running windows xp?
hard drive as ntfs or fat32?
you got all the jumpers correct as per instructions?
    you have updated bios?
what is the date on the bios update?
you have tried booting to a dos bootdisk and typing d: and the drive isnt there?
does dos detect your c: drive?
have you read the writing on the disk itself? it doesnt say 30gig on it does it? if so you have the wrong one
you sure that it really is comming up as 30gig and that it isnt 30 gig used to 30gig free or anything to that effect?

i am looking at the drive in partition msgic and ther are two sets of markers on the main drive.

the markers are for the 2 gig boot and the 1024 cylinder

on the main drive they are close but on the 120 gig drive they are far apart

i also think there is a 1024 cylinder problem how can i solve this
