ps2 wont read disc

Got a ps2 for me kids for christmas.Been great upto now but when i incert
a disc now i cant get the game to come on any help much appreaciated

As long as it has not been tampered with :whistle send it back to sony saying it won't power up, and they will swap it for you - when u receive new one, contact sony and say that u could not eject the drawer on the old one, and that u had a game in the console...they don't check the old units , and u will get a credit note for another game! ker-ching!

Sorry to say that it has been chipped. But can it just stop on its own
can you reset it to factory settings .Just incase my kids have been arseing around with the settings Cheers chubblies

I've seen loads of problems due to chipping.
Does the console still power up yeah? but its not loading the disc? have you tried other discs like music ones? It might be a problem with the laser.

There's some threads in the ps2 section on this mate. Ps2's lasers can go out after a while especially if they've been strained reading dvd-r's and cd-r's etc. Wouldn't have expected it to do so after a few months though. Was it brand new at Christmas? Sony will swop a non-warranty ps2 for you for 60 quid I think, even if its chipped (you say you didn't know). Obviously you won't get a chipped one back! Check out the ps2 section anyway mate, you can try to tune the laser, then replace it if you want (quite easy and effective, cost 20-50 pounds) or just swop it with Sony.
