My pc keeps freezing

About 2-3 times every hour my pc just locks up, usually its when i d/click my docs but it also happens when clicking others.

The only thing i can do is alt,ctrl,delete and then shutdown.

Amd2000xp
XP Pro (not original)
512mb ddr ram

Can ne1 help me please

Could be any number of things. Is the PC overheating?. Decent PSU fitted?. Any changes made recently either software or hardware?. Done a virus scan?

When you do CTRL ALT DEL to shutdown does it show any applications as 'not responding'??

Just trying to get a bit more info.......

I dont know about the overheating but i have been running with the sides off since b4 christmas and its still the same, done virus scan and not added any new programs, even re-installed xp.(altho i havent tried a format)

When i press alt ctrl del it never shows anything not responding however occassionally after about a minute it sometimes clears itself ie everything disappears from the screen then comes back again and sometimes it gives an error report saying a fault occurred in explorer do u want to send to microsoft etc.

Hope that makes it clearer.

ive got the same problem at the moment..my hdd is overheating and its locking up constantly

...last year sumtime i had another overheating problem with my cpu (turned out to b the shitty fan), the cpu blew up with the m.board and the hdd

.. built a new system now im gn have to find sumthin that cools this hdd or i mite just have to run it from the fridge

Leaving the sides off can actually make the cpu / HDD's even hotter because this stops the air from being pulled through the system by the PSU.
If it was previously working fine and you havent added / changed any hardware then it sounds like it could be faulty hardware (cpu / mobo / ram). Try downloading some diagnostic software to test memory etc.. Beg, borrow or steal another CPU to eliminate that, same with the ram.
