So how do you do this then, in Outlook ?

Hi

I use Outlook 2003 at home and work, both are on broadband and are on pretty much all the time.

I would like my contacts and diary to be able to update each other, so that if I add a contact at work it will get added to my pc at home. ( it would be good if the diary and tasks did this as well)

Any idea how this is achieved.

PS Would also like it to be secure so no one else can get it.

express works on the computer that its installed to.
as far as i know its part of ur pc,s operating system.
i may be wrong......
would be handy if u could.....

I don't think that can be done as far as I am aware, Why dont you just at the end of every few weeks, export your address book and send it to a pc at home? then import it at home, only way I can think of doing it.

Its not Outloook express, its the full Outlook. If that makes any difference.

I presume you mean whats the difference between Outlook and Outlook Express ?

Alot, Outlook express offers only limited functions of its big brother, but one is free with the OS and the other is part of Office.

there is an option to share a folder within a 'personal folder'
as long as the 'other user' is in your contacts list then you should be able to set it up.
We use this in our office and it takes a little while to populate, so I would have thought by the time you get home it would have synced?
of course I could be talking bollox as this is over a remote location but thought it might be worth mentioning.

this is only possible if you can both see an shared area from home and work - so unless you work can be see from home or you can buy some internet visble storage that can be seen from work there is no automatic way to do this.

you can certainly do things of this nature with outlook, but it might be easier to make some sort of cron job (aka scheduled task) that runs that does it somehow?

would get rather complex but you could use some sort of dde link or something and make outlook export the adress book and upload that file to a server and call it home.wab. do the same at work and call it work.wab then you could make another scheduled task that checks the other file every minuite and if it is different it would sync it?

very very complicated and hard to do but if you really needed it and were really stuck it would work (sort of)

cant you set up a microsoft exchange server and share them with that? the likes of Peaugus Team will know about that since i think he does windows server admining (or a more advanced version of that - people who are above admins always get offended when you call them admins

)

Anyway, all seriousness now:

Getting Outlook to sync up with a remote PST file is a piece of piss, although your first problem is going to be in establishing a link between home & work.

Don't even think of placing the PST file on a shared internet folder (although I doubt you will be able to do that anyway), have a chat with somebody in the IT department and see if they offer any way of establishing a VPN.

If you can get a VPN up & running, then post back. If not, .............

We use Cisco where we are, but I doubt my recommendation will count for shit as the final decision will rest with your IT department.

Your question to the IT department should be as follows:

Do you offer any way of connecting to the internal network from a remote site?

If they say yes, then talk to them as they will know what setup they are running.

If they say no, then forget it.

Whatever you do though, don't try & set up a VPN yourself as not only will it probably not work in the first place (I doubt you will get through their firewall), but unauthorised modifications, etc to computer systems are regarded as gross misconduct by companies and you will find yourself straight out of the door (and possibly in court as well if the company is so minded, because it is also a criminal offence)

Run your email on an Exchange server and then you can log into that for your email and everything is sync'd on the server.

Firstly, it is not up to the OP how his works e-mail is currently configured.

Secondly, even if they are using an exchange server then he still needs to be able to gain access from the outside world before he can do anything
