dell laptop mouse problem

Hi all,
can anyone help me with a problem a friend of mine is having with his dell lappy`s mouse?
When he uses the button in the centre of the keyboard, the curser shoots up into the top corner of the screen. if he disables this and uses the touch pad the curser is very sluggish???

Any ideas?

For the touchpad, check the mouse properties (acceleration).

For the mouse "stick", if it consistently misbehaves then it is probably time for a replacement (which means new keyboard time).
