drying a mobile out??

last night i was out in town and i was on the phone, gave it to my mate to talk to the person on the other end and somehow (cant quite remember how it happened now :| ) it ended up going for a swim in a drink. anyway, it landed upside down so the screen has liquid (alcohol) in it. it turns on but doesnt do anything else. only button that works is the on/ off button. at the time it was ****in funny but now im pissed off so can anyone recommend some way of drying it/ getting the alcohol out the screen and getting it working again. could it be the circuitry that has ****ed up connectors now? (its a 7210). thanx

I once dropped my old 8210 down the bog, luckily I'd flushed first.
The phone was only in the toilet for a matter of seconds, but it stopped working.
I disassembled the basics, taking the cover off and the buttons etc, and just left it switched off for a day, the next I re-assembled it and turned it on, it worked for 15 minutes then ****ed up again, so I did the same again and left for another day, then tried again, and it worked and still does now, that was around 2 years ago.

Got one of mine wet before aswell, just got to switch it off straight away and let it dry or atleast that what i did.

Sometimes works. I destroyed 2x 8210's using a .45 Stella Artois the problem is that liquid gets "into" the PCB and makes it expand causing the components to pop off the board. Bad news is no phone insurance will cover this kind of damage either. House insurance may be able to help though if it never comes back to life...

thanx for the replies, im just going to give it a few days and then retry it. if it doesnt work then ill give up on it, sounds like thats all i can do

lol, i cant remember properly but i think it might have been me in the handover process that dropped it (definitely cant say it was him for sure lol) so i guess that makes me the facking stupid one annoying thing is bet if id tried to get it to land in the drink i couldnt have done

well, ive had a mate who left his t68i in his jeans and went thru a 40degree washing machine cycle!!

the phone was fine (still works), it was just the battery that needed replacing.

what i dont get is when i turn the phone on the screen comes on, does that nokia handshake crap and then goes to the usual screen. only problem is none of the other buttons work then so its effectively just stuck on and doesnt do anything. i wondered whether that meant that there was a fault between the buttons and whatever they input to that i might be able to clean up or something.

mm, it maybe then, the keypad has stuck to the inside of the facia

if its not a clip on cover, then someone would be able to open your phone, clean up the keypad and sensors (where the physical plasticy keypad u press touches the button holes)

its a good sign that your phone powers on

its screwed dude, my sister has had some expieriance with dropping phones in alchohol and shes learnt that the thing to do when it happens is to leave it off if it turns itself off and stick it on a heater, or else turn it off straight away then heat it up. if u turn it on when wet then.....

i can take the facia off and it all looks normal inside. im sure it must be some connections that are ****ed somewhere inside because i noticed it was turning the volume down on its own without me touching anything :|

As per above stick it through a 40 degree wash cycle - no powder or softener etc and unclip battery(obviously).

Re-attach battery and hey presto!

There is a moral here about going to the pub with one mate then ignoring them by talking to someone else on the phone, either way the phone should be binned.

Water/alcohol damaged fone can be repaired using an Ultra-sonic bath. My m8 has a fone shop and he fixes 80 - 90% of them. If they can be repaired he charges £25 and if they cant he doesn't charge.

A lot of people that I talk to say they use WD-40 to repell the water, but this doesn't work in all cases. The damage that the water does is quickly rots the contact pins (very fine in most cases) and therefore there is no contact between the component and the board.

Get it into a shop ASAP and don't just leave it to dry m8.

Yes ultra-sonic pcb bath is your only last option.

Turning the phone on after it got wet wouldnt have done it much good though, you will most likely need to buy a new screen also.

i left the phone in pieces in a drawer for the last three weeks and i found it today, thought **** it, ill have a go at turning it on- it works, the screen looks a bit funny an the star key has to be pressed harder than it used to sometimes but other than that its fine. quite happy i didnt just chuck it!
