Default making you own backups - any good ?

    Hi again,

I have been talking to some of the more experienced GC users I know and they have been saying that making backups of your own GC games is maybe not worth it as the downloadable releases are somehow better quality. Now being an Xbox user mostly, I am confused by this as homemade backups are always perfect.

What is the experience of DF users on this - is it ripping worth doing, do some titles not like it ? Or is it down to the tools you use etc.

    any advice would be apprecitated,

    Cheers

Depends if you're any good at making backup's, there's no difference between the "Experienced" user's to anyone else, which makes me think they don't know anything saying something like that

Some GC Game's do not work whatever way you copy them like (at the moment) & there's only one way that most of us know how to copy GC games atm, but there's load's of different prog's that rip them all the same way, the reason why STARCUBE apparently quit the scene

starcube are a team which made the previous loaders, they apprently have "quit" the scene due to a old dol file which rips games got leaked, this dol file is what the majority of the rip programs are based on

I see - I have another noob question

What is the Save Hack ? It mentions it on a lot of compatiblity lists "need to use the save hack to get this to work" etc. I know it involves pressing some buttons on loading , maybe the z button - as it mentions this in the Cubesoft loader, but I cannot seem to get it to work and hence mario sunshine will not load.

Can anyone give me a clearer idea what it is ?

To enable the savehack, once you have come to the loader screen on your television you should still have one msdos box open, hold z & keep it held & press start, when the pc starts running the game, just before it does it will say "save hack enabled" or something like that.

The savehack is a little trick that enables some more game's to save that wouldn't before... if i remember correctly, it's something to do with the gc trying to read a certain part of the machine. With the savehack it disables it checking this part of the machine which doesn't cause it to crash.
