    Default Young Driver Insurance

    I know there's a sticky on cheap insurance but they all seem to be ridiculous..

    I'm looking to insure a 2004 VW Golf SE 1.9 TDI, which is group 6. Cheapest quote so far is £2200 with elephant (has to be fully comp due to age and value). Anyone recommend a company that will do me a cheap quote? All the Young Driver companies are ridiculous.. about £3000.
    I'm 18 and not got any no claims but no points either.

    Cheers

    a 1.9tdi is not group 6, it's 12-13 sdi's are group 6 you've got no chance mate, im 20 and couldnt get insured on one with one years no claims.

    cheapest insurance is www.liverpoolvictoria.co.uk

    oh and do yeah and do yourself a favour, buy a second hand car - you drop 3k driving off the forecourt in a brand new motor.

    umh i wouldnt put 15k into a golf, upto you though.

    id put 5k in a motor now, get rid of it two years later when i have two years no claims and get my hands on a new shape beamer - but thats just me i'm as bad as anyone though - i just can't wait!

    check out the tdi a3's there the same car but different shell, prefer it to the golf and less common.

    I'd get meself a copy of the Yellow Pages if I were you. Prepare to spend about a day of pure phoning and hopefully, just hopefully someone will give you a good quote.

    I think there is a thread about this already isn't there?

    Try to get someone older as a main driver, it should be cheaper that way.

Even so I want to get no claims built up and dont want to have to pay more than about 1k a year ideally.. Will get another car if I have to but want a newish one thats not too slow and looks nice.. your not going to get a quote under 2k atm mate, i paid 1,700 for my first year in a 1.4 ibiza, then 1.3k in a 1.6 bmw, then same again for 1.6 a3 - it's a 1.9 regardless of wheather its a diesel or not, they inusrance companies dont want the risk.

    Trouble is is that you are a new driver and have very little experience, so you are bound to get high quotes even on shitter cars. I used to pay £900 odd for a 998cc mini. Best thing to do is get a crap car and build up your ncb or expect a high premium. Also by having a crap car, if you do smash it up, you wont be as gutted.

    I think mladen is right, just spend a day ringing round and hopefully u will eventually get a good quote. After you have done this a few times you will learn which companies give you better quotes. When I did this for my car i got a quote from sabre that was around 3.5k, eventually i got quoted £786 from Adrian Flux which is a hell of a lot better. I dont think LV are always going to be the best, in fact the quote I had from them was very high.

    Buy a crap car (eg. Nissian Micra) cost you £500, get fully comp insurance for it (should cost you another £500) thats 1K Then you'll be third party cover to drive any other vehicle but then the Golf needs to be registered in someone elses name (eg your dad's).

    Now all you have to worry about is if you wanna the ditch the standard alloys for something more outrageous to make it stand out

    There isn't an insurance company in the world that would do fully comp for £500 for a driver that is 18 mate, no matter what the vehicle.

    It also depends what area you live in, if you live in a rural area (eg Keele) then car insurance comes so much cheaper than to someone living in manchester.

    @jonjon

    I might not be getting the Golf it's just an idea... My dad promised me a car if I get to university and has been doing so as long back as I can remember.. I'm not spoilt I have to work for most other things I want including the insurance I'm guessing :S

    @phreakster

    I would do that but the other car needs to be 1.6 or smaller
