    Default Car insurance @ 25 ???

    Hi guys,

i put this in the D&D so hopefully more people will see it

I'm getting myself a car soon (hopefully in the next week or so), and i was wondering about insurance. I turn 25 in a couple of weeks, and i was always told that 25 was the 'magic number' where your insurance starts to go down.

I used directline.com (just to get a ballpark figure) and when i set the policy start date to the day after my birthday, it worked out about £20 cheaper than if i started the policy tomorrow.

What i want to know is, would i be better off waiting till i am actually 25 to get the policy, or is it not going to make that much difference.

    Hope that makes sense

    Cheers, Big man

To be honest it is all about no claims... being a bloke you are going to get stung with insurance costs anyway.... plus it depends on the car... a high grade motor will cost more what ever your age...

I think once you get to 25 the magic number moves to 30 !!!!!

As said I would'nt worry about the age just the NCB

It still cost me about 450 full comp on my 1997 323 BMW with full protected no claims. I am now 28 and the price hsa not changed too much since before I was 25....

    Insurance companys = T@$$ERS

    IMO of course

yep its a facking moving target.

when i was 17 the magic no. was 21
then when i was 20 it moved to 25
then at 24 it moved to 30

even now at 27 with max no claims I still pay around 900 (inc n.c.protection)

but having said that it is for a Jap import Mitsubishi FTO GPX (2.0 V6 200 BHP)

Been looking all day, and there were some companies that had a significant drop in cost at 25 (directline, norwich union), but they were still bloody expensive overall

In the end, i found admiral to be the best. they were cheapest by about £400 or so

I tried a lot of companies last year, but found that AXA now quote on you're actual post (house address) code rather than the area where you live, and got fully comp cheaper than 3rd party with others.Living in liverpool this was bloody amazing.
Give them a try, good luck

Axa are struggling at the moment on car insurance after losing quite a number of good contracts and so are getting highly competetive indeed.
give em a try on www.axamotor.co.uk

    First thread boys (cherry popped)

    Hi Big Man

Can you help me out I am 23 and I am going to renew my car insurance next week, I have been on my dads company car insurance policy paying only £600 lasts few years but it has gone up this year to over £890 and I have not had a claim, so I am going to come off his policy and see what the best price is I can get. It’s for an Audi A4 1.8 N Reg 1995.

Know any good company’s I should be looking at? I know they all rip you off but you never know some one out their might know of a good one.

Have you sorted your policy out, by the way what car are you getting?

By the way jimbob2002 nice car.

    Hi Jonesy

    http://www.digital-forums.com/showth...ight=insurance

Take a look in here, there's loads of reccommended companies. Some will bex extortionate, some will be ok

I ended up getting one quote from the AA for 4.5k !!!! in the end, admiral offered my £901, and adrian flux offered £800

Lot of shopping around, but well worth the effort as you can see

Good point, your premiums are calculated on where you live,(As well as age,NCB) so if you live in a rural area(Regarded as a low crime location), your premium will be noticably less than if you live in somewhere like Liverpool, Manchester,(High crime locations)

Some insurance companies don't ask for proof of no claims and can save quite a bit.
I'm 25 and drive a 4.0 landrover discovery. i pay £440 fully comp and when i asked them were to send the proof of no claims they said not to bother as it would not lower my policy.
I was so impressed at the price (other companies quoted up to £1300) that I asked them to quote for my other landrover and they did that at £100 3rd party f/theft.

    Try sureterm direct.

Then you've been fed a load of crap! i think you'll find that places like Portmadog and surrounding areas are a far lower risk than Manchester, but places like Cardiff and Swansea are a different ball game..

Did i hit a nerve there.
If you read the post again it just says Wales not specific places.
And it probably is a load of crap as it came from the national press.
