Default Going to Edinburgh - What's the quickest way?

I'm leaving from Kent to go to Edinburgh.

Two ways appear to me but I do not know which to choose.

I can go through birmingham, up past Blackpool and on from there

Or there is the M1 all the way up until leeds, then A roads to Edinburgh, which seems the most direct route.

    Can anyone help?

Try theaa.com and use the route finder - you can ask it to give you the quickest or shortest route iirc

I'd go M1 then A1 - but don't go all the way A1 - cut across and do the Coldstream run - much nicer and often quieter - done it loads of times - hundreds even lol.

Have a safe trip - check yer water, oil and tyres and make sure yer mobby is charged lol.

    I've done this route too.
watch out for the speed cameras though, there are a lot on the coldstream road.

Funny thing is the last I did that route I was a passenger in a car where the lads speedo was broke. so every time we saw a speed camera we just braked like fack cos we didnt know how fast we were going.

The best way from Kent m8. I went 2 months back from Birmingham (Virgin) Took 5 hours. I'd rather pay a bit extra and fly, saves you hours and the less time saved driving all the way up there the more time for enjoying yourself.

Thanks for the replies, I did consider flying but....I had a very lucid dream about 9 months ago that I was flying to Scotland and the plane crashed soo....not that I'm superstitious but to quote Mr T:

'I aint going on no plane fool'

    Coldstream route? What's that?

right returning to the topic in hand now

the A1 gets a bit shitty at times cos bits of it are not dual carrigeway, and even on a dual carrigeway there can still be jams

yea drove up to Doncaster at the weekend from kent. A1/M1 was the most painful driving experience I have had in a long time!! What a crappy stretch of road; untold cameras, roundabouts and road works!

Luckily I had GPS so I could nip around jams through various villages
