help reqd with playing dvd on xbox

my xbox used to play dvds only two weeks ago but now it comes up with you need to connect the dvd playback kit receiver to a controller port to watch movies.Remove the disc to continue
Any help much appreciated

are you using a playback kit?
or did you
1. use the DVDX prog
2. have a patched dashboard
3. use on of the media players

I didnt do anything i just bought it that way and when i put the dvd in it played but now it comes up with the above screen

Weird - Xbox dont play DVD's natively - you need either the DVD playback kit (which is normal for all xboxs) or if you have a modded Xbox, you can use a patched dashoard or DVD region X software to play them without the playback kit.

Is your Xbox modded ? if so maybe you just updated your dashboard and removed it ??
If its not modded then I have no idea why it played DVD's before as its not supposed to.

i think someone has touched it cos it doesnt start the way it used to
It comes up on the screen a setting page

have you played rainbow 6 recently ? - it can reset the dashboard to the orginal verson when loaded (its part of updating the dashboard for Xbox Live)

I dont know if any other games do this but there some be some - anything you just played and know it doent play DVD's ?

i havent played rainbow 6 at all.
Is there anyway that i can get it back to its original state myself or do i need to get someone to help with this.
Bearing in mind that i know nothing about an xbox as it belongs to my wee lass. i had it modded before i got it so its not even if i can get the guy to fix it
Any help is much appreciated especially if its not working the wee girl thinks that all she has to do is watch it down stairs when the footie is on.
