    Default PS2 not reading CD's

My PS2 is not readin my CD based games but ok on games on DVD. I only have a few games on CD and know that a majority are released on DVD now.

Is there any soultion, how reliable is getting the laser replaced and will SOny do a US machine in the UK? or am i having to look at a new PS2. I have seen places selling lasers, is it easy to do, is it unplug old laser and plug in new?? or is there solder and wireing to mess about with.

    Link and advice welcome.

    Cheers.....Q

Opening a PS2 is very very easy...anyone can do it. you only need to take the top part off to get at the laser so there are only about 8 or 10 screws on the bottom and then you have to unscrew the 4 screws on the top of the cd/dvd drive and you've then got access to the laser.

its an easy job to do..if you get sony to do it, it will cost you about £65.

very easy to replace the laser, but it is troublesome and tiring to adjust the new laser to read all the media correctly

I recently tried to replace the laser and that was the easy part and found that it would not read any discs - I tried adjusting it for a while and still no joy
