this happened with one of my m8s ps2 his laser had moved
Check Your laser
There's at least two threads on here about that sort of problem (I know, one of them's mine), have a search and see what they said. I haven't fixed mine so can't offer any guidance!
Yes i can hear the disc whiring in the tray, but wont play games music or dvds,it used to .It is looked after and is seldom moved cant understand how the laser could move. if it has ,how do you access it to see. I have had a quick blimp at other thereds Help PaulOriginally Posted by baronvon
laser may have failed, sadly its very common. The lens is worth a clean if you fancy trying that.

I have just aquired a ps2 with the same problem, i have taken it apart and noticed that when its trying to read the disc the laser is making clicking noise and is sort of jumping up and down.
I have done alot of research tonight to try and find how do adjust or clean the laser but i havnt found much, has anyone got any good links?
Cheers.

ahh it (they) may be a v9 in which case it may have an entirely different problem - one that needs to be professionally fixed. (a sony screw up)

i wrote a tutorial on tweaking the pots eons ago, it got ripped off a few times so a google search should find it. I will have my repair info site back up at some point ( http://www.ps2help.com/ ), dunno when tho :/ no time to build it !Originally Posted by pislb

plasterer
I`ll be truthfull and say I know jack about the insides of my PS2, my very old V3 done the same however I was getting the dreaded DISC READ ERROR on, but from what your saying your sticks on the broswer screen. Ended up binning it and getting a new one (but I did get two years out of it after a 2 new lasers)
I did manage to open it up myself and clean the laser, its not too difficult to do,but be careful if you`ve never opened one up as its a very fiddly.
I`m up in Glasgow these days but can anyone from the Liverpool area recommend anyone(repairs shop) that may be able to help Plasterer
Cheers
