files gone missing...........but not missing

i downloaded some music about 500 tracks in one folder, once completed i moved the folder to another area, this music was then queued up in winamp, its been about a wekk, but since then everytime that winamp tries to play those files it freezes the whole pc for about a minute, then plays the file perfectly fine, so i thought i would look in the folder jsut for the hell of it, when i go to access the computer i end up freezing the computer for about 30 seconds then it runs fine, but the problem is that there are no files in that folder now, even though winamp is still playing those files, i have checked the properties of the files from winamp, it says they should be in that folder, but when i look nothing happens, its a bit dd that winamp is still playing the files when they supposedly dont exist, but i am more worried about why the pc is locking up and not working for me.

any help would be much appreciated

mabye it's browsing for the files and finding them

are hard drive lights on during the freezes?

winamp seems to be finding them so they are somewhere did you copy the folder or just a shortcut to it/are they mp3 check the format and have you checked show hidden files and folders winamp may be freezing trying to locate or convert the files and is the original folder still there you could copy it again

i have tried showing hidden files nothing here, they were cut and pasted from another area of my hard drive, obvioulsy as it was cut its not going to be there, pc is now being jerky instead of freezing now, but no lights come on for the hard drive on the tower, but it is mental cuz its still playing the files after a few seconds but i cant find the buggers.

seem to find more problems as more files have gone missing music folders are now empty dont know if it could be a worm deleting it all, and will a file recovery get my files back the ones i have lost so far

Might seem fairly obvious, but have you run a search for them ?

if you havent written anything else to the drive they will still be recoverable

first check that your system is worm / virus free then find a file recovery program.

yeah the search didnt work..............i guess i will have to try the file recovery program............any one know any good ones that i could use???
