Vauxhall Corsa Possible Oil Problem

Its a 1995 1.4GLS with 70,000 on the clock. We topped it up with oil and drove ti for a bit, but when we check the oil level there never seems to be any on there. We left it over night to make sure it wasnt just holding in the engine or something but theres still not much on the dipper.
Theres no oil being left or dripping out underneath the car anywhere that we've noticed and it doesnt chuck out any black smoke when driving.
Any suggestions??

OK, check the radiator water... if this is not contaminated, jack it up and check the sump for signs of leakage, if this is not the case then I'd say you need to do a road test and have someone follow you to see if your burning oil when driving (it would not necessarrily be black smoke, as burning oil is a light blue vapour, can I check that when you top the oil up that the dipstick does show full and then goes down after driving ?


If you have none of the above... take off the air intake from the carb/inj unit and then start it, rev it up high and watch for burning oil/smoke coming out of the return, if it is the your BIG ends are on the way out and I'd sell the car pronto.
