The figures you quote for your speed test are about as good as it gets for a 512k broadband connection.

As regards your download speeds, they will be poor if your upload speed is "maxed out" to the limit as their is no more available bandwith for the ACK packets.
There are other issues to obtaining maximum download speeds of course, including available bandwidth at the server, routing, network congestion, etc.

A good site I found for alsorts of stuff like Music, MP3's, Vidoe's, VCD's program files etc. is www.bearshare.com you don't have to share and you don't have to subscribe.
Give it a go, I have used it alot.

Go to Security Centre, open windows firewall, click exeptions, click add ports, each port needs to be entered one at a time, so first enter port number, torrents seem to like 6881 to 6889, so your first port number would be 6881 then give it a name, i use BT for em all, leave it set on tcp, click on ok, that will take you back to the previous screen next to each new option is a tick box, tick each one click on OK at the bottom,
    job done, you hope :thumbs

    Just 2 points to add.

1/ The spyware that comes with Ares is called NavExcel. (Choose NOT to install when installing Ares)
Run a search and make sure you don't have it.

2/ The normal ports for BitTorrent are 6881 to 6889 (although Azureus only uses 1 port), but quite a few isp's are choking them, so it's normal to pick different ports to keep those speeds up.
A good range to use is any 10 from between 49152 - 65535.

    Regards,
    Garngad. :thumbs
