Hi all,
I recently purchased a second-hand Sony DCS-S70 digital camera and after examining it, I found that the zoom function was not working. Essentially, when you are going to take a photo, if you use the [W/T] toggle button on the back, the lens doesn't move at all and consequently everything is out of focus unless it's about 5cm in front of the lens. I've used Sony cameras before and, despite the fact that the previous owner seems to think this is normal, I'm not convinced it is working properly.
When you power up the camera, the lens moves out and back to a position where it sticks out about 2.5-3cm from the power off position and, if you go to the playback option and use the [W/T] toggle to zoom in and out of the saved photo, it works. Also, there is no display on the LCD showing the zoom position (which is standard even on my old Sony camcorder.
Can anyone help? Is it a hardware problem or something to do with the microprocessor? Or is it, in fact, how the camera operates, as it seems contrary to all the reviews I read about it prior to commiting to the purchase. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
