    Default Newsgroups noob

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to newsgroups.

I know that some providers keep the messages on their servers for longer than others and have heard that easynews always has all the messages.

Problem is they only offer 6 gig a month which seems a bit small for what i want to download.

A freind uses news2me but they are web based and i want to use something like newsbin pro.
Does anyone know of any newsgroup servers that have good retention and offer a bit more than 6gig for $10 a month?

What do you guys all use?

I use astraweb and they have been great for me on a 512k connection. No downtime and always 60k a sec. They have a 10 day retention and their coverage is excellent. Not bad for less than £10 a month.

If you have more than 512k then I've heard that astraweb maybe ain't the best but I wouldn't know.

Cheers I might give them a try.
Unlimited sounds better than 6 gig a month for the same price.

I use astraweb and are very pleased with them, they have had their moments but seem to be over the worst now.
Download averages about 170k on my 2mb cable.

www.newshosting.com have just started an unlimited service. Just shy of $15/month, 4 connections, 2Mbps max download and 14 day retention (soon to be 24 day) and 99% completion.

Have been using there normal services and the speeds, retention & completion are fantastic.

what news reader are you using. I have recently signed up with them and get about 40k download and I am on a 1meg connection. It may be the way I have my newsreader set up. I am currently using xnews

    thanks

Claranews here. £50 a year for 20GB a month. If you hit your limit in any given month you can reset it via an admin panel (your yearly renewal date will reflect the changes).

Retention is only a few days but I can't honestly say that I've haven't missed anything that I needed over the past year.

    Matrix

Up until a week ago I was a noob as well get yourself a copy of either Newsbin pro or grabit. Both are easy to use and set up.

Changed to Grabit cos it's free and dosn't have a popup every 2 mins.

Still only getting 45k most of the time with the occasional 55k.

i use newshosting 10gb for £5.80 and its FAST

retention on binary groups is 30+ days completion is said to be 99% but i've never seen an incomplete, upto 8 connections at once, no logs kept and as with most others you can reset your account if you run out of credit (although it usualy lets you overflow by upto 1gb), unlimited posting too.

i'm thinking of switching to their capped service once its retention is increased though cos $15 is still only about £8/month
