    Default (Dirt) Cheap new PC

OK guys, a little challenge, I need a new base unit for my old dear. Doesn't need to be anything special, in fact quite the opposite.

Looking to be VERY cheap (hopefully sub £200)

    Requisites are -

Runs XP OK (128/258mb memory, pretty much any old processor as far as I can tell)
    CD drive
    Floppy drive
    No monitor/keyboard or mouse needed)
XP installed and included in price
    Dial up modem
Hard drive size not too important 40gb should be fine
Would rather it was pre-built as I'm not too confident at mucking around with these things.
Would prefer to avoid 2nd hand (I'm not very trusting) although proper refurbs are fine.

And that my friends is that - away you go, Good karma to the winner!!

    Cheers,

I'm certain it can be done, after all I'm after a pretty low spec as an old Duron or Celeron ca easily run XP - just waiting for the right people in the know.

i couldnt find the bloody edit button...

    http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/sho...CategoryID=147
    http://www.idealcomputing.co.uk/

people who could really help you out are
    sales@shepleydirect.co.uk - phone them 08707 586445
they usually build any system you want - they are not like most people who have a catalogue of pcs and will not do anything else... used them before

    good luck

Cheers Prodigy - if I was really trying to skimp would the following work

    Same case as you.
    Change motherboard to this
    Change processor to this
    Same memory
    Change hard drive to this
    Everything else the same

As I say this needs to be as low a spec as money can buy (!)- will be used pretty much for dial-up web browsing only.

Still over £200 once you've factored in the extortionate price for Windows XP!!

    PC price £158.14

    + XP Home OEM at £ 60.71

= Total price £218.85 !!! Not bad eh?

BTW you are doing great on the bits for you PC only downside is you might need to build it yourself, but that is not nearly as bad as you think.
