sky dish / ondigital receiver

A friend has just given me his old sky digital dish and receiver, however he nolonger has the card for the receiver.

Is it possible to connect the dish to my on digital box.

My ondigital signal is crap and i lose most channels after about 9pm, they just crack up all the time.

If it is not possible is there anything i can do with the sky receiver to make it work without the card.

The ondigital box will be useless with a satellite dish, the 2 systems use very different frequencies, you could however get a free to air card from the bbc and use that with the sky box/dish, this would give you the freeview channels with most likely a better reception than the ond box if your in a fringe reception area.

Haven't the BBC stopped doing those cards cos their channels aren't encrypted no more?

not entirely sure, I have cable here so I've kinda lost track of the satellite situation, if that is the case then the plan remains the same only u won't need a card from the bbc. worth a shot anyway
