Ok,
So what is the best cheapie digital camera for a beginner?
What are you after?
Some of the questions you have to ask are...
1. How big do I want to print, if normal photos are all you want the 2MP is fine, if you ever want to print bigger then you'll need to go for more MP.
2. How much zoom do I want?
3. Do I want to learn? A camera with manual controls allows you to begin to learn the basics of having an SLR camera without the cost and troubles of needing hundreds of lens.
Well I'm a total beginner, so I really don't have a clue what to ask.
Well to question 1, just normal photos, I might not actually print them off myself, just email the photos to people.
2. As for the zoom, I'm totally clueless
3. Yes I do wan't to learn.
well, sorry to start of negatively, but if you are a photography newbie, do not start off with a Packard Bell DSC-220 just cos they are cheap as chips. It will not take good pics unless in direct sunlight.
It's a couple of years old now, but if you are looking to buy a nice little start off camera for simple A4 prints, try an Olympus C-300.
3 mega pixel, 3 optical zoom, 4 digital zoom. You could probably pick one up on ebay for £100 with a couple of acessories. A banging cam to start you off. Even takes great pics in a poorly lit room
Shooooooo-ryuken!
Take a look at my kodak in the hardware section m8.
Im not sure how much they cost in the UK though .
Basically Im in the same boat as you , a complete beginner .
I brought my first decent digital camera (before I had some cheap jenoptik thing about 4 years ago) anyway, I havea Fujifilm A210, and I absolutely love it, cost £120 from Jessops, so probably about £100 online, I'd seriously recommend you have a look at www.steves-digicams.com, its a brilliant site with sample pictures from each camera listed on the site, good luck
What about this from Dixons £61.73 online:
KODAK EASYSHARE CX6200

Even though it is out of stock at the moment?
I can't see the edit function lol, so heres the link to the FujiFilm Finepix A210

i think that even for a complete beginner (me too ) you'll want something with optical zoom. The Finepix 210 that SmAuR has suggested looks nice.Originally Posted by wizard1974uk
Incidentally, never buy anything with less than 2 mega pixel - quality isn't good enuff
Shooooooo-ryuken!
That looks nice.Originally Posted by SmAuR
Those Fuji's are good little starter cameras. i had the 2MP one of those as my first digicam. They're very basic Point and Shoot cameras. One of these as you first cam is probably a good start, then you'l probably need to move on to something with more manual controls when you realise you can't do everything you want with your first one (that's what happened to me!!)
If you can stretch to one of these it has the manual functions I'm talking about.

on your budget to get somehting atleast 3 mp...but each to their own..

I highly reccomend any Nikon Coolpix Camera, a coolpix
2100 (2 megapixel) or 3100 should cost between £100 & £150
or even cheaper from ebay.
They are simple to use but use cheap compactflash memory and offer
very good picture quality for the money , they also use standard AA
batteries. It comes with a charger and 2 good quality nikon batts aswell.
Get yourself an intelligent charger & another set of high capacity
Ni Mh batterys and they will save you a lot of money in batterys
if you use it a lot.
I have had a 2100 for over a year and woudnt be without it!
great camera have no need for huge megapixels.
Just picked this thread up.
I'm about to buy my third digital camera and was looking for approval of the Fuji finepix S5000 (around £210-£230). I started with two point-and-click cameras (Agfa CL ?? and a 2Meg Fuji Finepix 2300). Both have sufficed but I think this might be a good starting point if your budget can cope.
3M camera, 10x optical zoom and 2.2 digital zoom. Appears to have great reviews, even when it was around 250-300 quid.
