SD cards are used more widely in the cheaper range of cameras and they are used in some mobiles phones like the N-Gage.
The XD card was created jointly but Fuji and Olympus.
Crikey they are small compared to the SDs.
Yup, although now it's pretty obvious just to re-iterate, despite the similar naming convention (SD / XD) these cards have nothing to do with one another.

The n-gage and most mobiles use mmc cards, the xd cards at max capability will be able to go upto 8Gb on one card, hence the video feature of some cameras would allow for much longer recording, fuji is now releasing cameras that have much better video resolution, when a 8Gb card is released you'll be able to record quiet a lot of video.
