is it possible to unformat a smartmedia card?

after a nice weekend out with the kids and my sisters 21st birthday fancy dress party, the mrs has accidently :censored formated the card whilst in the camera, is it possible to recover and pictures from it, ive made sure that nobody has taken anypictures since. i know years ago u used to be able to use undelete in dos, but of coarse windows dont have it in, but because its a usb device i dont think i could get it to work in dos anyway.

need help bigtime please, sister will be dissapointed is i cant recover these.

didnt seem to work, ive now got about 5 programs that ive tried, all programs that ive tried i cant find out about unformatting, bet these proggies only try and recover deleted files

Well i just cut and pasted "unformat a smartmedia card" into google, and a whole host of apps. appeared!
So I would try that first mate.

Don't know if it's any better than the software you already have but it's worth a shot.

You dont need to unformat it just recover the files i use a prog called handy recovery recover them to c then stick them back on the card if you want.

If at least 3 of the programs fail that you try then none of them will work, I have tried it before, in the end I took it to a professional photography place and they have all the latest and greatest software for this, there conclusion was "Sorry sir, i't won't unformat"..

Well, when I tried PC Inspector I recovered deleted files, I just checked again by deleting the pictures off a MM card. I then formatted it in a card reader in my PC, put it back into the camera which asked me to format it again which I did, and now PC Inspector cant find the files on it. So you are not alone in finding PC Inspector not working for you

By the way, I had saved the pictures first

If you recovered the images to th MM card then put it in the camera and reformated it again you wont get the images. you need to recover the images to another drive then reformat and then put the images back.all i ever do is fill the card take the images off to the pc then reformat the card to use again and if i format by mistake i recover them to c drive then reformat the card it has never failed.
