    Default Windows Media Player Prob

I've got Windows Media Player (9?) and I've had it for months now without adding any new visualisations or anything and all of a sudden it simply doesn't work.

I've made and tried to double-click the different icons to open it, one in the quick launch bar, one on the desktop, one in the start-up menu and then I tried just opening the playlists and media files directly and nothing opens it.

Just when I think it's going to actually open I hear the "alert ping" and the small hourglass timer mouse cursor flicks and disappears and then nothing. I've tried running the different error fixes on Norton Anti-virus to no avail. This has happened maybe 3 or 4 times before, but it usually fixes itself whenever I use system restore but it keeps failing to make any changes.

    Any ideas?

umm that sounds pretty damn dody, but maybe try installing the media player 10 beta? or try using another player like the divx player, it plays all formats anyway

also recommend installing AVG anti virus if you think norton is the problem, im pretty happy with it only after a week

Yeah I've done all the usual scans etc. etc. But found nothing. It's even just weird how xp won't restore back to spots where it usually does. In the meantime I've been using the bog shite that came with my soundcard - Avrack or some crap, but atleast it's working.

Cheers for the suggestions, I'm going to try and re-install WMP or the next best thing ... beat my computer into submission with a stick.

Has the same problem last week, just stopped working for no reason.
If you have updated WMP using windows update, then uninstall the last update ( found in add/remove programmes ) and re-update it; if you havn`t updated it, then try that.
That worked for me, hope it does for you. :nowords:

I haven't updated anything for ages, not since I ordered my free copy of the Feb 2004 Security Update which came with some WMP stuff. I'm just starting to update it now, hoping this'll help.

Before you decide whether to install this software, it is important to understand that the technical beta release does not have the stability of released Microsoft software. You might encounter problems with this release of the software that could possibly result in a loss or destruction of data.

does that mean all microshit is beta then :thumbs
