    Default Small text in photoshop

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with photoshop (CS) and was wondering if anyone can help.

Basically, when I try and write very small text, it comes out very pixelated, in the main photoshop window, printouts and when saved.
The document I am trying to create is 196x354 pixels in size and I need some tetx on there that is about 1.5mm tall. The text needs to be vrey well defined though, ie. professional looking. I'm sure you have seen the type I am referring to in such places as the "small print" on documents etc. MS Word etc will do it no problems, but photoshop is not having it! I've tried changing the text style to none, sharp, crisp, strong, smooth etc, but no luck.

Prehaps I should have mentioned, that this only needs to be a grey colour on a white background - nothing fancy.

    Hi,
Cheers for the links, however I am still unable to solve this. How to professional design companies who make flyers etc get the fonts to look well using them very small?
Do they do everything in a larger resolution and then print it smaller?

    :?

That's one way of doing it - although professionals will use a vector graphics package

    Hi,
What would you say to use then? I have adobe illustrator - That's vectored isn't it?
I also have a few images in bitmap format that I would like to stick on there, but again these need to be quite significantly reduced. Is there an easy way to convert from bitmap to vectored or an app that will do this?

    cheers
    John.

you need a dtp package for vectored font's something like corel draw or microsft publisher

import your bitmap image into the package and put the text where you want it and size it to sute

    job done

    good luck.....

Yup, and i hate to piss on Cosmicas chips, but it's far suprerior to the other progs he mentione

If you want to do it in Photoshop, try this font:
    http://www.kottke.org/plus/type/silkscreen/

it's free for home or commercial use, and if you use the basic one (just called Silkscreen) at 1.5mm, set it to strong in the options. Hopefully this will be much better. If you can get away with using black instead of grey as well, this will help a lot

As for converting bitmaps to vector, i don't think there is any easy way of doing this other than importing the bitmap and tracing it

    Hi,
Cheers for the help. The problem is that I have to use a certain font. I had a look @ illustrator, and found it isn't too bad, except for the fact that when I try and output the files, all the dimensions are wrong!
