Default Gold. Does it go up in value?

Firstly, if this post is in the wrong section, could a mod please move it.

Right, Just been doing some tidying up, and i have found gold ring that i received from an ex-girlfriend about 2years ago. It's 18K Chinese Gold, (its a nice yelloish colour, not 2yellow like indian/eastern gold) with a dragon design on the front. I know she bought this 4 £170.

Now as i dont wear it anymore, (and times are a bit hard) i'm needing cash, so i would like to sell it (most likely 2a local jewler/pawn shop), and was wondering would it be worth any of the same value, or close to it?

If any1 has any info, i would be greatful, just so i know, b4 i actually go the shop in a few days.

Thanks for your time reading this post,

    Mikey

gold doesnt go up in value unless times are really bad but it also doesnt tend to drop in value either.

Thanks 4the reply 4me2, Ok well that sounds decent, but i wont be asking 170 4it, maybe even 100-130. as it was a present, do you think a jewler/pawn shop would ask 4a receipt as proof of purchase? this was over 2yrs ago now, and i have no further contact with her, so i wouldnt b able2 get it. Just wondering.

    Thanks

Gold as a cmomodity will appreciate and depreciate like anything else that is bought and sold. It's currently trading at $408/Ounce

As your ring is a piece of jewellery you will have paid part of the price for the design and the manufacture, box and overheads so the actual ring will be worth much less than you paid for it.

Best thing to do would be take it to a few brokers and see who will give you the most for it.

    Hope this helps

Since the Brinks Mat robbery in 1983 the value of Gold has dropped in real terms by 80%. If you want to see the real value of gold drop before your very eyes, just watch bid-up.tv they've built a whole business on shit thats cheap, tacky and is only worth a fraction of their valuation.

i saw something on watchdog about them saying the rrp on a watch was something like £12,000 and it was really worth about £1,200 and the owner of the bid-up.tv price-drop.tv channels kept blaming the watch maker saying its their rrp and not his and its not jewellery its a fine time piece so nicky campbell gave him a week to get any jeweller in the world to value it at 12k and he'd appolagise but the bloke wouldnt touch it
