    Default Wireless Network and Xbox

Is it possible to connect to a Xbox wirelessly. I want to put one in the car and don't want to have to rip my car apart to get it out when I want to add/remove stuff.

If anyone has this set up already could they let me know what kit they are using. I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to wireless networking.

    Cheers

Bit confused on what your asking?

You want to play the Xbox in the car but dont want to put the Xbox in the car?
Or you want to put an Xbox in the car and dont want to change games all the time?

Answer to 1, you cant do it. As soon as you drive away goodbye signal.
Answer to 2, you could load a HD full of games, stick XBox in boot of car and then just feed the cables through (just buy cheap pads for car and get a 2nd hand xbox to leave in boot). You could then buy a 12v to 240v convertor and there ya go!

However the question was for wireless playing. I have a few mates who use Linksys wireless Routers and have 'Game' adaptors for there Xboxes that allow them to play Xbox Live/XBC etc... wirelessly.

What I think you mean is that you want to put an Xbox in the car and when you want to add games etc... to the HD (whilst the car is in the garage I presume) you want to connect wirelessly to save having to put discs in etc...... You could do this by installing the Xbox into the boot and make yourself a Cat 5 Extension cable from the ethernet port in the back of the xbox which is then easily accesible from the boot meaning that the xbox can still be hidden away. A bit like a phone point extension cable or electrical. Then when time to upload games you could A. plug in a wireless Games adaptor (Expensive however!) and FTP to the xbox to dump games, or use the same cable to plug in another cable direct from the router/pc and again connect to upload games. The latter option means that you will have to have a long cable from the PC to the car but is cheaper than buying the adaptor.

I see what you want now and why you would not want to rip things out all the time. If you have the cash (you must do to have an Xbox in the car with TFT screens lol) get a game adaptor, if not go for the long Cat 5 cable (it's cheap as chips!!)

Someone else may have an alternative but I think it would work along the same lines.

Yes, thats exactly what I want to do. The xbox is to stay in the car at all times and just want to ftp wirelessly. I don't want XB Live or anything like that.

Just looked at the prices of the Gaming adaptors, £60 for the adaptor and then another £50 for the access point. Plus I would need a bigger power invertor (more money).

Think I'll just run a long cable from the back of my house (where the PC is) to the front (where my car is). Like you say cheap as chips.

    Thanks for the help.

No probs mate, glad you could translate what I was trying to get accross lol. The cable will probably be faster too. PC world had some 12v to 120v convertors at the weekend, didnt see the price or if they had 240v though (think these were for using laptops in car, you could get a USA power unit??)

Let us know how you get on though mate.

Maplin sell 12v-240v converters, quite cheap but the price goes up for increased wattage output. You will need the engine running too, as the drain power big time- I used to have one years ago and it drew something like 30 amps to supply a 100w device...

Dont know how far the techonlogy has come on since you last had one? I have heard that they are not too bad now. I always thought it drained petrol becuase it was making the alternator work harder but new ones are all done electronically now (again dont know how these things fully work) so dont use much more?

Somebody soemwhere will have the answer though......

Anyone know what power rating I need for an xbox.

Will the 70W one work for it.
