    hea lad's and of course ladets...just bought a vdub passat,1.9tdi se 110 b.p.h,upgrading from a pug 406.was told the passat se were a rocket ship and blew the audi a4 outa the picture,soooooo i bought 1.turbo dont seam to kick in rite...feel a kick around 2500 rev's but after 3500 rev's fook all,my brother in law work's for a place that fixes cop car's and he had a drive in it tonight and said its not up to standered on the passats he has drove,thing is he aint a diesel guy he's drove the passats but has nout to do with the engine side of things with them.i know about "SCREWING" on diesel engines...could it be that someone has screwed this engine down to save fuel??? my 406 would blow this thing away,i bought the passat for more power cause i dident thing the 406 was up to much, after a spin round the block in the 406 im in 2 minds weather or not to sell the passat and just keep the 406,anyone round the east belfast area have a look at this for me or anywere for that matter,i just dont want to take it to a dealer and get charged a fortune...im skint after buying the dam thing. there is also a clunck noise coming from the driver side and a clicking noise coming from the drivers side when turning right..... i have put that down to a cv joint. other than someone having a look im open to all sugestion's,i have read and read all over the net and it has ranged from sencors to the cat converter...i just want a definite answer and fix.cheers all!!!! fustrated trev

    i'd keep the 406 mate, a well better car, the 406 will rpobably have a 1.9 Tdi engine in it, i think it would be better to upgrade to a 406 HDi engine, them buggers fly, they'll rip the shit out of any VW TDi, and its a cheaper car for the money

    These are prone to cat blockages, but it generally occurs around the 50,000 mile mark.
    It could be a number of things, but the cat would be my first port of call.
    A good car electrics place should have the equipment to read the ecu to see if theres any sensors etc faulty.

    Generally these are a very good car and when in good running order and should outperform your 406 in every way.

    If you decide to keep it and fix the problem, get it chipped up, the difference is well worth the money spent indeed.

    sig edited,thanks for the input guy's,the car has just hit the 117k mark,im going to buy an air mass meter/control... same as the ones in the merc and merc sell them cheaper than vw :nowords: i have read they are a common problem. how much is a chip for 1 of these urbsey mate? i have been looking about and all i can find are anywere from £400-£700 i did see a place selling a tunning box but forget the price... is a tunning box the same??

    The superchip site is quoting £511 for your Passatt m8.

    A friend has an 'addon' box on his rather then having the ecu upgraded and has had no problems with it.
    I guess its down to the manufacturer and personal preference.

    got it pluged in and a diagnostics done,nothing turner up so on monday im replacing the air mass meter,having a look at the cat and getting a service done....if its not fixed by then im selling it on ffs LOL much are the addon boxes??? i cant find fook all

    was the air mass controler...i'll tell ya it has made some diffrence!!!! so there ya go if you own an audi,v dub or merc and you think the turbo is away coz o lack of power try the air mass controler,im gussing this is one of the reasons this car was put up for sale,best car part i have ever bought!!! now i have to look around for the tunning boxes

    www.tdperformance.co.uk had a few from them with good results

    www.dieselchiptuning.com aint used them

    check the sensor on top of the pump as well cause the block take it out blow it with an air pump and replace it this will give it a bit more power as well

    was just about to tell you about maff all new diesels suffer from this ive got a 130bhp will blow any gti and i mean any
