    Help Xp Pro Problems

Hi, i've just upgraded to Windows XP Pro, my problem is that every time windows detects any sort of problem it warns me that i have 60 seconds to save any work in progress then shuts down, which can be a nuisance especially when i am in middle of burning dvd, is there anyway of preventing this, any help will be much appreciated.

Deffo a virus mate and a pain in the arse one at that.

Can't fully recall removal instructions, but if you type some of the message that comes up when you computer counts down, into Google, there'll be plenty of sites to help.

    Right click my computer

    click on manage

    expand services and applications

    click services

look for remote procedure call - NOT the one called remote procedure call locator

    Double click on the service

choose recovery from the top tab

for each of the events ( first, second and susequent failures) change the option to take no action

this will allow you to use your computer without it restarting.. you still need to remove the virus though :annoyed:

after that - as Pongo says download the microsoft patches from windowsupdate

thanks for replies, i've run virus check and these came up: PE_PARITE A1, PE_PARITE A,
WORM_SPYBOT.DV, they were all located in c:\RESTORE\TEMP
even though they were detected, my virus checker ( Trend PC-Illin ) was unable to cleanse or delete them and i have been unable to access the Restore folder to delete them myself.
I have now uninstalled XP PRO and gone back to Windows ME but the virus's are still in Restore folder, i've disabled Restore in Windows ME and virus's are no longer detected, but i'm not sure if this is the answer. Sorry if this seems long-winded, any further input will be much appreciated

i think u should dl the latest version of trend pc cillin, it has a built in firewall and stps viruses really well, It may also have the new dcs damage cleanup services which gets rid of those nasty trojans

tbh i never had a virus that rend cant remove but i have a m8 whos dad (honest its not me) frequently goes to porn sites and he has a trojan right now, tonite im going over to install the latest version with DCS (i use officescan corp) and we'll see how good dcs is

I contacted Trend and explained situation to them, it seems that because virus's are in
C:\RESTORE they can't be deleted, Windows does'nt allow access into that folder so disabling seems to be only option at present, once again many thanks for all helpful advice

When you get the message "shutting down" etc, then go start--->run and type:

    shutdown -a

This will cancel the shutdown process and give you a lot more time to resolve the matter!
