    How can i use newsgroups to download stuff? what software do i need?

    can anyone advise

    you need newsleecher, and idealy a good news service provider such as usenetserver or astraweb.

    ISP's in general provide poor usenet access.

    if it's helps you i use astrawb pay as u go plan, i got 60 GB for about £15, their speed's are good (normally) and retention seems to be about 15-30 days for the binaries and more for others.

    I also use XNEWS to read the newsgroups and www.newzbin.com / www.nforce.nl to find what i want

    I have giganews m8 and find there own newsreader software very newbie friendly they do unlimited downloads for $25 per month with a very good completion rate (which you will come to realise is most important).
