    Default Halo2 XBL connection speed

    Hi all,

Got my copy of Halo2 through the post this morning - thanks Gameplay. :thumbs
Thought I'd give it a bash on XBL first and see what all the fuss was about. Now, I have a 1Mb connection and for some reason, it takes about 5 minutes to get in a game and then it's over in 6. What's all that about?
I've had a quick look on the bungie forum but can't find anyone else having this problem.
Hopefully it is just because the game isn't supposed to be out until tomorrow and some Euro servers will be up and running.

    Anyone else having this problem?

    there have been some problems

but if your connecting through a firewall you "may" need to enable these ports:-

    • UDP 88
    • UDP 3074
    • TCP 3074

I've got a Netgear wireless router and can't seem to find a facility to enable specific ports and since everything else works ok I doubt that this slow 'game finding' speed would be down to this. I've actually looked into this a bit further and found that a couple of other people have noticed this problem and apparently the slow speed it takes to join a game is down to Halo2 trying to find games with good connectivity. Great excuse. :nowords:

I have a Netgear Wireless router too.

    i) You need to give your xbox a static IP (on the LAN IP Setup)
ii) Then forward the ports on Port Forwarding / Port Triggering

Well, that's what I did anyway. Not so sure it's made a blind bit of difference

What I'm hoping is that the cause of all this was the fact the the PAL release wasn't until today officially and that there wouldn't have ben a lot of people playing on this side of the world. I'll give it a blast again later.

Probably, it is peer to peer after all.

I'm having the same kind of "fun" playing DOA Ultimate online at the moment

I think it's because a lot of new XBL members all have the day off work all trying to play. Tight arse M$ prbably havent got any additional servers etc..... to cope with the demand.

Am I right in thinking that you get a 2 month free trial with the game..................

    the offical reply is

Everyone else and their dad asks: I am suffering unusually long wait times while attempting to join a matchmade game. Why is this crap happening to ME? I am a good person.

This is also is being worked on and a potential fix is going through additional testing. The problem arose as we saw tens of thousands of users on Live. It really is a consequence of their being so many damn people on Live. This one we think we have figured out and we should be able to fix it soon. We are optimistic the process can be made a LOT faster. In the interim, please be patient, your game will start eventually. And, please keep in mind that if you're playing in a playlist that has less activity or more specific rules, i.e. 8 of you are waiting to get matched against another 8 person Clan, there will always be a little longer wait.
