XXX Web dialer Crapin' up my PC!

Gotta AMD K7 PC 850Mhz, runnin' under Win 98'...old I know but can't upgrade 'til after Xmas! Soon as I go on-line this XXX web dialer keeps hijacking my Pc. have tried everything to remove it. Have Fire wall protection installed after, but am told that Web dialer is dormant on my harddrive. Someone please help advice me how to remove this without a drastic format....:nowords: THANKS!

Download, install, update and scan with the following (where applicable)

Anti Virus:

AVG
Housecall
Bitdefender

Anti Spyware:

Spyware Blaster
Adaware

Anti Trojan:

A²
TDS 3

Run Hijack This and remove any dodgy registry entries. Uninstall any dodgy looking stuff in add / remove programs.

Should resolve all malware problems...... If your lucky

Thanks to those who tried 2 help out on this one, but this Resident Evil web dialer is doin' my head in!!.. ... it's showing as (124844.exe (brower plug-in)), but I can't seem to get rid........HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please before the Misses see's it!! ..

mmmmm Dialer.... i had this when i was on 56k, go into your dial up connections and remove it.

It worked for me but some money did show on my phone bill.

It may also have set itself up in one of your startup areas...

Check your Start Menu / Programmes / Startup for entries...

Also have a look in your registry under the following keys:

Start / Run / type in regedit and click OK

Browse to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run

for any entries reffering to the executable you mentioned.

It could also be a Browser HiJacker - download and run HiJackThis from url in previous post - let it run and then copy/paste the log file in here for us to have a look at for you...

Funny enough this all began whilst I was on 56k, I'm now Broadband, with anti'virus and spyware, but the little bugger xxx web dialer is still resident on my PC. I've deleted it several times and my McAfee Firewall picks it up but can't get rid of it. Nuff' thanks 2 U guys for ur recent posts, I will be tryin' all these in next few days...Let u know how it goes!

Thanks to some of you guys I've finally got a trace to the evil X Dialer which is still crapin' about with my PC (rushing to finish this now before another attack!!:censored )...anyhow someone ask me to paste in the info, this is wot's found :

ktronix, from the sounds of it you havent tried the list as chip2k said, honestly mate just try them. I've always just used adaware pro and its always stopped these kinda things. One of the latest versions has a thing called adwatch which is resident in the memory like an antivirus and keeps a look out for any new spyware. Sometimes that program might miss one or two things so thats when you'd need to use the other programs. It's always wise to download them and keep them in folder even if you dont install them coz one day the likelihood is you will need one of them. Anyway, thats my rant. Good luck with sortin your pc.
