pingo - that's exactly the cooling system i've got, it's just literally the fan is at the back only has a CFM of 52 and it's not enough, 100+ is really needed for this job. As it's right nex tot my pc which is as loud as a coot I dont mind

oh and good luck with teh punisher style, those pj's look sweet. the reason I went for mine was to get a grasp on teh DIY before I went overboard on some crazy design. Better things are on the horizon .

@stuz - yeap PC fans are the way to cool

yeap I reckon I can get back to finising my box properly now, I got my new fan. The temps gone down to suitable levels, still maxing out at around 95F on the rear fresnel and about 87 or so in the gap between them, I think for now it's safe.

The new fan was LOUD untill I dampened it a little. I used some old ventilation tubing to soften the noise down a bit:

(ignore anything that looks shoddy, the rooms not finished yet )

But after I put that tubing on it was quieter than the PC next to it again. It's much louder than the old thermaltake one it's replaced though I dont mind, it's doing a superior job. I'm even tempted to route the output air into making a heated seat for one lucky viewer

I feel like i'm running a double plog

If noise is a big problem, can you not mount it on the other side of the wall pointing through? I did that with mine, and covered the hole with a picture frame with no picture to block even more noise and to look a bit better than just a big hole
    Spoiler:
    Picture frame and hole.....

Other side of the wall, excuse the tacky setup, its only temporary

Oh, and here is the end result:thumbs Sorry about fuzzy piccy, camera batteries gone flat on last photo, so this is with my crappy fone

i love temporary setups, why mess with working things eh?

nice idea cubbalubies, maybe when i'm allowed to burrow holes in rent accomodation i'll do that. I think with all the DIY I wanna do now I'm gonna need my own house so I cam customise the hell out of it.

as for pingobingo's teletubbies comments.....beauty is skin deep it's results that matter...but it does look like a DIY tumble dryer (and sound louder than one, lol).

If your psu is noisy (or selected other parts, for that matter) try this in the box below. It is a quote from a post of mine on www.enemyterritory2.com - good laugh there

Post subject: Noisy PSU? Submerge it in vegetable oil! (eh?)

I was nosing around & found this nice bit of info

    http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=41878.0

It's one thing I might try myself when I'm living back at my place, my psu makes a bit of a racket.

No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

maybe i'll turn the whole thing into a Projector/Deep fat fryer

Never really thought of doing that:|, dont one-way mirrors have a slight tint to them though? You cant really see the hole that much through the glass in normal light tbh, that pic show it up because of the flash...

none mate. used a old pantyhose from a good old sex session with CJ to put over the top hole near the LCD, stops all dust from entering the machine.

as for dust just around in the air, I dont ever notice forign objects so I guess it's minimal.

as a side note I'm building the next one now...just collating plans and materials for a small form factor PJ...it'll be good if it happens, i'll keep ya informed

Hi shangrula did you use the tempered glass as indicated on lumen labs or did you find a suitable alternative ie Lexan. Thanks

    hey,

I used tempered glass. I just phoned a local glazier and they ordered it to my spec. Order big as they will stamp the bastard with a seal as apparently it's UK law but mine also came from pilkington who then send it to the glazier so it's out of their control.

I dont see a pilkington logo on my projections, it's out of the light path.

Also I personally think lexan isn't great for a amature projector. If you get it all right it should be fine but if u dont then it can easily get too hot. My projector is in no way portable so I went for the glass - which does the job perfectly

(although the lexan has Uv filters so maybe my image will go green after time, perhaps 5 years? it'll be broke by then
    I'm new to this

Thanks for that info was getting just a little impatient. I have a correctly sized piece of laminated glass, is it too dangerous to use this whilst testing to see if everything else works.
