Digital Camcorder Software

Hi guys, just bought a nice new Sharp mini dv cam courtesy of Biggy 7's :thumbs

Went out today and purchased a firewire cable too so i can link it up to my pc.
what im looking for is a good piece of editing software so i can compile the film.
im also going to burn my films onto DVD any ideas how i can do that? i want to keep the good quality i have from the tape dont really wanna compress it down to AVi or anything like that

any help on this would be much appreciated thanks

AVI isn't compressed mate, in raw form it takes up 14GB of hard disk space for one hour of video

Anyway, with regards to software, do you want it to be the dogs dangly bits which will take you the best part of 3 months to learn how to use properly or do you just want to "dive straight in"?

The best software is Adobe Premiere Pro, but this ain't cheap and it definately isn't for the beginner.
For simplicity while still maintaining good results, I would say go with Pinaccle Studio 9 for the capturing, editing & saving (save it in raw AVI format), and TMPGEnc for the actual conversion to MPEG2 and the DVD authoring part.
