    Question PES4 Gameplay

Ok, PES4 has been out for a few days now, and I've managed a fair few games. It's as good as ever, and reminds me more of PES2 than PES3 (a good thing), but it still has its problems.

Has anyone else noticed the incredible refereeing decisions when there's a foul? If I catch someone's leg whilst running, it is always blown as a foul, sometimes I even get a yellow card. Meanwhile, if the AI opponent slides through the back of me in the penalty area as I'm about to shoot, it's play on. :annoyed:

Also, someone needs to sit Konami down and explain the offside rule to them.

Great game, but let down by a couple of sloppy bits of coding. Am I being unreasonable, or does anyone else agree?

I've been waiting for PES4 for ages, but have to wait util xmas day until I get my hands on it

Do the bad points you've mentioned spoil the gameplay?

No, it's still a great game, but only if you're prepared to shout at the monitor every once in a while.

YOU CHEATING PIECE OF :censored is my favourite.

i remember reading somewhere that they acually put the wrong decisions for off sides and fouls in, to make it more realistic.

Obviously its not supposed to be all the time, but i think it al adds to the realism!

Esp the way referees are acting in the premmiership atm!!

I've noticed that I get called for fouls sometimes even when I have the ball, ie. I'm running at a defender and he'll stand there and block me, and I'll get penalised for it. Never saw that happen in the older versions.

Also, I noticed that the PC version seems to run slower than the PS2 version, gameplay-wise. Anyone else think this? I play it at 60Hz on the PS2, have my PC version running at 800x600 and 60Hz (it's a laptop screen I'm playing on - portable PES!)

I cranked the res up too high for my first game and it was really slow.

Tried it at 1024x768 and it seems just as quick as the ps2. I've got quite a fast system, and I can take most games higher than 1024, so it must have some issues. Didn't they sort the same problem out with a patch for PES3?

It seems to run faster at 1024*768 unless certain pitch textures are used, which bring it to a crawl. If I run it at 800 * 600 it's slightly slower but more consistent. It took me ages to get PES3 running decently, I guess I should just fidget again!

offsides are constantly being called against me too, but when i watch the reply it does appear to be the right decision - i've made some beautiful runs through doing through ball + lob (l1) button, it sends the ball over the last defenders head and your man runs onto the end of it.

for corssing i use L1 if you double tap [] youll do a low cross, keeper never gets it and you just tap it in!

Also use [] for shooting, if you hold the opposite direction your shooting you usually can get some fantastic goalsl!

My biggest problem with the offsides is that the game doesn't get the rule right. According to FIFA, you can only be offside if you interfere with play, and by that they mean you are touching the ball (as it says in the rules). You are allowed to be offside up until the time you touch the ball.

Sadly, this game will blow for offside if you are 'offside' when the ball is played, whatever the circumstances. I've had it where I ran back onside before touching the ball, and it calls a free kick. That's just wrong (ask Henry or Van Nose-telroy).

Sadly, the first patch seems more concerned with fixing obscure problems with repeated play, rather than fixing problems that actually affect gameplay.

Well bu:censored er me. Turns out that all my problems are stemming from one fact: I am playing as Everton.

Tried a couple of games as Arsenal last night and there was hardly any problems at all. Therefore, Konami have committed the ultimate sin of PC footy games:
To make team A seem better than team B, they take away team B's powers of football, and gyp them at every opportunity.:annoyed:

Anyone else remember Actua Soccer, where a game against Brazil meant that your team suddenly couldn't kick straight, and gave the ball away constantly.

Had great fun as Arsenal, but I want to have fun as Everton. Bah.

Still, it wouldn't be PES without at least some Gyppage (c).

Do you mean the side step?

Scottio what does [] equate to on a ps2 controller?

I must say I am dissapointed to hear about the problems you guys have fiddling around with settings, I said it about the last game (on a DF thread, in fact) and I'll say it again, Konami are sloppy! They know this game will sell on the PC and so do a sloppy port. I hope it is a better port than PES3 which I thought was poor. Thing is, with a game so accurate and realistic as PES any slight variation in the way it plays is noticable and degrades performance, it obviously wouldn't matter in some puzzler like chu chu rocket or something (haven't played that in ages).

As for the offside rule, I thought I ref could call it for a player even if he didn't touch the ball for example if he has dragged another player away with a run or something. Regardless, offsides get called in ludicrous positions. Sometimes you can smack the ball into the back of the net and you get called for offside because someone was standing near the net! Secondly, the fouls system definately needs some work, I can bring the keeper out 30 metres and crop a player one on one (obviously this should be a red card) and might not even get a card. OK, so that is a bit of a stupid situation but it has happened. More realistically, if a defender chops a man down who is through on goal, as long as he hasn't done it violently he can get away with a yellow or nothing. The ref clearly isn't programmed to take into account situations. I think the fact that you haven't and, in my opinion won't (you didn't for PES3), got a patch to fix this shows that we are all victim to the commercialism of the games industry, Konami won't fix this because they want people to buy the next version. Since half the people on DF didn't pay for the copy this probably won't be too annoying to many members on here. :tongue
