saving pics

For some reason I can only save pics as bitmap *bmp now whereas before I could save them as Gifs etc.

example when trying to save a pic from a website and right clicking on it the save as option only allows me to save as bmp now , I also have to give it a name as it displays as untitled . Before it didnt need naming at all as it would have automatically had the pic name .

Any ideas where I have to look to get these options back again ?

It is possible that your IE cache is too full. Another symptom of this is that you are unable to do a "view source".
